Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute Lessons in Kidlington, Oxford
I teach part-time, on a flexible, ad hoc basis offering individual clarinet, flute and saxophone tuition at home in Kidlington, just north of Oxford. Lessons are offered to adults at all levels, and committed younger pupils predominantly of an intermediate to advanced standard. I now have over 20 years experience of teaching woodwind, in both jazz and classical styles.
I am a sensitive, experienced and enthusiastic music teacher and have specialised in 1:1 tutoring for many years, both honing my understanding of woodwind instruments, and developing my own playing, most recently on the flute and clarinet. I am DBS checked and a full member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
Creativity, establishing a good technique and developing the all-round musician in a relaxed, friendly and positive learning environment form the backbone of my teaching, while, at the same time, I recognise that each pupil is an individual and requires lessons tailored to his/her needs and learning style. It is essential that all pupils ensure that they can find regular, quality time to practise and thus make progress, so lessons are rewarding and worthwhile for all.
Student sit ABRSM exams and/or Trinity exams when appropriate but these do not constitute the core of my teaching. My main aim is to create skilled and rounded musicians who feel comfortable in any situation - whether orchestral or improvisatory and to be capable of independent learning.
I also encourage all my pupils to take part in other musical activities such as choirs, wind bands, and Oxfordshire County Music Service jazz groups or orchestras to enhance their musical experience and enjoyment.
